With a tip of the hat to the Chance-Vought Corsair and the A-6 Intruder, WAC introduces our new all-metal, low-wing aircraft “Freedom”.  While we didn’t specifically choose the Corsair and Intruder to model, form follows function and we ended up with the distinctive gull wing and the rounded, functional Intruder upper cabin look.

We wanted maximum pilot protection which we didn’t feel was possible in a flip-up or sliding canopy.  So we designed a safety roll cage for the cabin roof which of course necessitated cool-looking gull-wing doors.  A further benefit of this design was protection from the greenhouse heat that a canopy produces.

Freedom’s 44” cabin fits the tallest pilot.  Rudder pedals are adjustable for length and the nose wheel is steerable.  High-back bucket seats are separated from the baggage area by a safety bulkhead.  The large rear baggage area, with integral tie-downs, is accessed via a huge outside door on the pilot side.  Design gross weight is 1653 lbs.

Freedom has flaps on both the straight and bent portions of the wing.  They raise and lower together via a unique operating system.

Freedom will be available as an RTF S-LSA in the second half of 2013.
